Frequently Asked Transfer Questions
1.
What is Muhlenberg’s policy regarding Transfer Admission?
Transfer
admission is granted to Muhlenberg each semester on a space-contingent
basis. The number of admitted Transfer Students each semester is directly
related to the total enrollment at Muhlenberg, retention rates for continuing
students, and space available for transfer students. NOTE: If you are a part-time or full-time adult (over the age of 23) transfer student, please contact the Wescoe School for admissions information: http://www.muhlenberg.edu/wescoe/ or 484-664-3300.
2.
What materials do I need to submit and when do I need to submit them to
be considered for Transfer Admission?
In addition to an application for
admission, the following materials are required for admission
consideration:
-
High school transcript
-
Official SAT scores
-
College transcript (including grades for
your current semester)
-
Two (college-level) references
-
Statement of honorable dismissal from your
previous institution
-
Personal interview (call 484-664-3200 to
schedule)
-
$50 application fee (Application fee
waived for students who have previously applied
and are having their files reopened.)
The deadline for fall admission is June 15 and the
deadline for spring admission is December 10. Notification for fall
admission begins May 15 and notification for admission in the spring begins December 1.
Muhlenberg uses the Common Application and transfer students may
apply online or on paper by
downloading
the Common App for Transfers.
3. If I have applied previously, do I need to submit another application?
If you are a student who has
previously applied, either as a freshman applicant or a transfer
applicant, you can request to “re-open” your original application,
rather than complete an additional application (application fee is
waived if you are "re-opening"). Please note
that even though you may have applied to Muhlenberg previously and received
an admission decision, it cannot be assumed that your original decision
will be the same as your transfer admission decision. Each admission cycle
and applicant pool is different, so the context in which we make decisions
can vary from one admission year to the next.
4.
How many Transfer Students are admitted to Muhlenberg each year?
Annually,
12-15 transfer students have matriculated. In the previous two semesters,
10-33 percent of transfer applicants have been admitted.
5.
Is housing guaranteed for Transfer Students?
Given
our space limitations, housing cannot be guaranteed for admitted transfer
students. It has been our experience in the past that those admitted transfer
students who require housing have been provided with housing. This is
also done on a space-available basis.
6. Is Financial Aid available for Transfer Students?
Financial
Aid is offered on a limited basis and is not guaranteed. In order to be considered for financial
aid you must complete and submit the following information: CSS Profile,
FAFSA, parents' tax returns and W-2s, student's tax returns and W-2, and
any supplemental information that the Office of Financial Aid deems appropriate
to your circumstances.
7.
How can I determined if my credits from my previous institution will transfer
and when can this be determined?
Once
a student has been admitted to Muhlenberg, we would be glad to do a “transcript
read” to determine which of the student’s credits will transfer
from their previous institution(s). In order to do this, the student must
provide an official college transcript reflecting their grades as well
as course descriptions from the appropriate college catalog. Unfortunately,
we cannot provide this service to all transfer applicants, but only to
admitted transfer students.
8.
If I have only attended my previous institution for less than a semester
and I did not receive grades, am I still considered a Transfer Applicant?
Muhlenberg
considers students who have previously matriculated at another post-secondary
institution, regardless of whether or not they have earned grades or credit,
to be a transfer applicant. Therefore, a student who has matriculated
elsewhere cannot apply to Muhlenberg College as a freshman applicant,
but must be considered as a transfer applicant.
