Alumni Board: Committee Descriptions

List of Current Alumni Board Committees and Their Descriptions

CAREER SERVICES COMMITTEE

The Career Services Committee of the Alumni Board supports the Career Center by assisting with the following programs:

  • Muhlenberg Career Network
    • As a student, you may have utilized the Muhlenberg Career Network (MCN) to identify career opportunities for people in your major, or perhaps you began your official networking by calling a MCN volunteer for an information interview. The Network still exists - and we are using it more than ever. The Network offers alumni a variety of opportunities to assist students with career exploration and job search processes.

  • Internet Mentoring Program
    • Share your experiences and answer questions regarding your career field with a student seeking advice. As an Internet Mentor, nearly all correspondence will be conducted via Internet e-mail The exchange may be a one-time question, but the goal is for students to develop relationships with alumni who could provide ongoing support during the career exploration and job search processes.

  • Shadow Program
    • Each year alumni from around the country invite students to spend the day with them on the job over the semester break. Students select the field and general geographic area and the Career Center staff matches them with a host.

  • Alumni in the Spotlight
    • This program is a cooperative effort between he Office of Alumni Relations, the Career Center and Muhlenberg faculty. Since the Spring of 1994, approximately 400 alumni, parents and friends of the College have volunteered to visit the campus to offer their insight and advice to current students as they perform their own career search.

A maximum of eight awards will be presented at the luncheon.  The committee may choose to give more than one award in any category and may also choose to skip a category in a given year.

Awards will not be presented in absentia.  However, if circumstances require, the Heritage Award can be accepted by a family member or friend at the luncheon.  If logistics allow, the award will be delivered to the recipient by a college representative and an Awards Committee member at a later date.

REGIONAL ALUMNI SUPPORT TEAM

Driven primarily by volunteer leaders, Muhlenberg's Regional Alumni Clubs seek to keep alumni connected with the College, the Alumni Association and with one another. Through a network of dedicated alumni ambassadors, regional clubs provide networking, volunteer, and leadership opportunities to all alumni, no matter how far you find yourself from Chew Street.

  • Regional Alumni Clubs and Contacts
    • In areas with a large concentration of alumni, the College has teamed up with the Alumni Association to create regional alumni clubs. Each club is unique to its own location, but they all offer the opportunity to reconnect with the College, network with other alumni, rediscover old friends and make new ones. Contact the club leader in your area for more information about getting involved!
    • In areas with a smaller number of alumni, we also have regional contacts, who are available as a resource to other alumni in the area. Especially if you're new to town, look up your contact and get some inside information on restaurants, entertainment, and public transportation!

  • Regional Alumni Support Team
    • The Regional Alumni Support Team (RAST) is a division of the Alumni Board that assists in the start-up and maintenance of regional alumni clubs. In conjunction with alumni volunteers around the country, RAST works to develop avenues for alumni to engage with both the college and one another.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

The Nominating Committee works to identify and recruit alumni volunteers for consideration on the Alumni Association Board. They strive to maintain a diverse Board, based on age, gender, race, geography and alumni interests.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for compiling the slate of officers and general representatives, and oversee the Board's Annual "Self-Assessment" process. In addition, the Nominating Committee is charged with the orientation and onboarding of new members which includes the following:

  • Make the initial call to welcome the new member to the Alumni Board
  • Explain what is expected of the member and what the member can expect
  • Review meeting schedule and basic structure of a meeting
  • Explain how committees work and how they will be placed on a committee
Go Mules!
