| Citizenship can be defined as the duties and responsibilities
that come with being a member of a community. At Muhlenberg, you are a
member of both the campus community and the Allentown community, and there
are many opportunities for you to contribute to both. Each year the
college has an activities fair
to introduce you to the many areas where you can become involved on
campus, and the Community
Service office sponsors programs that help the people of Allentown.
Many on-campus organizations also have outreach efforts to the off-campus
community. Connecting with your community is a very important part of
your experience at Muhlenberg. Take advantage of the many opportunities
to become involved. In addition to the altruistic benefits of good citizenship, your involvement can offer some concrete rewards. Through these activities and community service projects, you can gain great experience while developing your leadership skills. You will meet people who could perhaps serve as references or networking contacts in the future. Be sure to keep track of your involvement on the log sheets so you won't have any trouble remembering your accomplishments when you are completing a resume or interviewing for a grad program. You should also spend time reflecting on your activities to determine how the experiences have affected both you and the community of which you are a member. |
