Leadership involves directing the activities of a group toward a shared goal. A leader establishes direction and influences others to follow that direction. There are many opportunities to develop your leadership skills while at Muhlenberg. You could hold a leadership position, such as President or Treasurer, in a club or organization; or you could act as the de facto leader in a group project for a class assignment. Both are equally valuable experiences and will help you develop your leadership skills.
There are two basic components to leadership: initiative and influence. As a leader you must take the initiative to do something, and you must influence others to follow you. You must keep the goal in sight while handling obstacles and dealing with conflict. Take a moment to consider the various leadership roles you play or have played while at Muhlenberg. Record them in the Leadership Log and answer the Reflection Questions for each. |
