| A resume is
what you are going to use to "sell" yourself to an employer. It is a
document that does an honest job of showing your skills and experiences.
You will need to create one when you are looking for a job and/or
internship. So, you need to create a resume. Do you feel
overwhelmed? Many people do, so you are not alone. However, you have
already made a great decision by keeping a portfolio and this will make
creating your resume much easier. Items included in your resume
are: education information, related coursework, work experience,
activities and interests, leadership positions, skills (computer, writing,
foreign language), etc. You may not be sure what skills you have to offer
the employer, but I promise that you do have something to offer. A great
place to start thinking about your accomplishments and the things that you
have been a part of is to go back and look at your log sheets. If you
keep good records on these sheets you will not forget to mention an honor
that you have received or an activity that you were a part of. The things
that you listed as accomplishments and responsibilities on these sheets
can now become a part of your resume. You can also read through the
answers to your reflection questions to remember what you thought of a
particular experience. The resume guide included in this portfolio
will help you to create your resume. The Career Center is here to help
you. You can: come to an Eye Catching Resumes
workshop, submit your resume through Career Connections to be
critiqued, make an appointment, come to Quick Questions, or a
Resume Clinic. Good Luck!! |
