Strategic Plan Review, 2007

To the Muhlenberg College Community:

The Trustees approved the College’s Strategic Plan, “The Talents Entrusted to Our Care,” at its October 2004 meeting.  On the third anniversary of the Plan’s implementation, I feel the moment is right to undertake a review of the Plan as we anticipate the end of the first five years of the Plan and begin to look forward to the next five years.

To accomplish this review in the most efficient time frame, I have re-convened the President’s Planning Group, which will meet during the fall semester 2007.  Along with the original faculty and administrative staff, Student Council President Scott Gordon has selected new student representatives from the sophomore, junior and senior classes.  In early September we began a series of weekly meetings to review the Plan’s progress to date and confirm that our original assumptions and priorities are still viable, and to begin filling in some of the blanks in the deliberately rough and incomplete sketch of the second five years of the plan.

The entire Muhlenberg Community will be asked to provide their input at key moments during the planning process.  We will also convene a Campus Forum on Monday, November 5, at 7:00 p.m. in The Miller Forum of Moyer Hall to discuss our progress and seek input as we move forward with our review of the Plan.

Muhlenberg College has used the Initiatives in our Strategic Plan to build upon existing strengths and develop new directions; we welcome your ideas as we continue to build institutional momentum.  The new Science Building, the Multicultural Center and Village dormitory complex may be the three most visible results of this Plan, but the new academic programs we’ve established in Public Health, Film Studies and African American Studies are of equal importance to the bricks and mortar projects you see around the campus.  There are many more exciting things going on; you will find a complete accounting of our progress in our 2007 Strategic Plan Update at http://www.muhlenberg.edu/committees/stratplanning/update.pdf

Please use this site to keep track of the progress of the Planning Group; information will be posted here as it becomes available.
