The early philosophers looked at the notion of chaos. Empedocles believed that it was possible for everything to be decontructed into the four elements of air, water, fire and earth. These elements, which are all around us, are combined in no particular order, and then are separated by love and strife. By such a process the world follows a paradoxical beat, going from chaos to form and back again.
