"The goal of punks was to express their rage in a harsh and original way" (
O'Hara).
Although Punk rock stands for many beliefs, punk rockers are anti-authoritarian or nonconformists. They believe that to conform is to give up all rights and conform to what society views as "proper," exactly what they were
protesting against. Many punks are primarily associated with the political ideology of Anarchy. Anarchy is the rejection of all political systems, and the belief that individual freedom and responsibility should be held above all else. These beliefs are there because Punks often think that they have no future within Society. Although the ideas of nonconformists are often idolized in movies and novels, and in the
media, Society has chosen to view the Punk rocker as rebellious, a deviant, and a troublemaker. But Society fails to see the art within the
subculture, and the emergence of a new way of life.
