and pledged to assist the public on the beaches in any way possible,
lifesavers and boardriders often had differing opinions on cultural values
which caused tension between the two groups in the 1960s and 1970s.

'boardies' were 'uncommitted, free-wheeling and anti-authoritarian.'"
