Australian surfers swelled the numbers of young Australians who were traveling

overseas

from the 1970s onwards in search for freedom and personal growth,
not on the time-honored trip to
England or Europe
but to more culturally lands.
These experiences helped to form a
generation
of Australians less insular an more global in their thinking.
