Squinted or Slanted Eyes

ANGER, CONFUSION AND FRUSTRATION

The eyes illustrated above most often mean anger and frustration. Patients using these eyes in a self portrait could be quite angry with themselves or with others.

If someone draws another as being upset and angy, it might indicate that the patient sees the drawn person displaying these emotions often. The combination of these eyes and certain mouth expressions can indicate certain emotions. They might believe that the individual drawn takes his anger out on the patient. For example, if a child draws his mother with eyes like the ones above, then the mother may be constantly mad with the child. The reasoning behind the drawings is important in assessing the information. Assessing not only the picture, but the entire life of the patient is also important in the diagnosis of the patient. The use of this holisticphilosophy gives the therapist a more complete approach for determining a diagnosis.

Confusion may also be illustrated with this eye expression. When the eyes are in this form, it depends on the other expressions including the mouth and body language to determine the true meaning of the expression.
