Often times, when when no eyes are drawn, or they are drawn closed, the artist has a secret. The inability to look at anyone, even in a picture can symbolize something hidden. Occasionally, traumitized people will not draw eyes in self portaits, because they want block out what they have seen. Sometimes, Closed eyes could even be used to represent the dead. Closed eyes don't always represent trauma or the negative, it can also represent sleep, peacefullness, etc.

      Gestalt Psychology explores every possible aspect before making the diagnosis. Other features may play a key role in determining a diagnosis, however, the therapist has to analyze not only the drawing, but also the person and the his or her surrounding environment.
