Crying represents a plethora of emotions. Depending on the situation and how the other facial features interact, the emotions portrayed could be vast. Some different emotions include sadness, happiness, and confusion. Often times, crying occurs when the emotions become too powerful. Extreme emotions elicits tears. Biologically, Emotions stimulate the tear ducts, thus causing people to cry.
To use crying eyes in a drawing could represent sadness, being upset, or displaying a large amount of emotion. If a person draws themself crying, most of the time, it is because they have negative emotions. The therapist should then try to figure out why she used tears in her drawing. Are they tears of joy, lonliness, sadness, etc.
If they draw other people as crying, it could be for another reason all together. Suppose someone draws their mother crying. Could be because the mother cries often? These questions must be asked: Is she depressed? Was the drawing related to a specific event? Is it generalized? Is the drawing representative of the truth.
