Widely Open Eyes

HAPPINESS, CONTENTMENT, AND LAUGHTER

Since the beginning of mankind, people have inherited the ability to laugh and smile. These actions indicate personal happiness, wellbeing, and communication. Without saying a word, a person can tell how another feels.

"I see the gleam in your eyes" refers to the ability for people to see emotions through other's eyes. That raises the question: Are emotions tangable? Ceratinly, you can not see, touch or smell happiness...however, you can feel it. You can also SEE the effects of happiness on a person.

Art therapy analizes the portrayal of emotion for individuals through art. Happiness is a key factor in determining the overall health of a person. Eyes illustrated wide and open for the self, parents, friends, and siblings, imply that the person has a good rapport for themselves and those around them. It is important to assess how the individual feels about others as well as themselves. In many situations, it is not how the person percieves himself, but how he sees others.

The look of wellbeing and happiness doesn't stop with just Western Culture. The same facial expressions are used to express emotion across the world. In other words, the widely open eyes can be considered a universal symbol of happiness.

The true representation of a person's emotions is not completely explained within the expressions of the eyes. Other features such as the mouth give indications of the emotions of another. The entire life of the patient must be put into consideration when analyzing him.
