PAIN & PLEASURE features the art of tattooing by portraying the work of Joel Santa who has been tattooing in the City of Allentown, Pennsylvania for over two years. His store, located in the heart of a declining downtown district, is called "Hellbound." This film not only focuses on the positive side of tattooing, but on the social and legal problems that plague tattoo artists. The filmmakers interview a prominent attorney and other members of Allentown society.
