Akan Goldweights

Asante (Ghana)
Goldweight
Brass

Objects from everyday life represent an assembly of goldweight forms: domestic furniture, tools, weapons, stools, chairs, baskets, spikes, agricultural or hunting items, and cooking utensils. The horse-tail fan is another common goldweight type; some of the chief's attendants would carry these fans to ward away evil spirits that may be in the chief's path.
