Description:  An evergreen conifer
Needles: 
1.8-3.1 cm X 1.5-2 mm; spiraled, turned upward, flexible; bluish green and very glaucous
Cones: 
  Cylindrical; 6-12 cm X 2-4 cm; dark purple, sessile, apex rounded
Bark:
Gray, thing, smooth, furrowed with age
Branching Pattern:  
Height:  20 meters tall; 80 cm wide
Conditions/Habitat/Kind of Forest:  Prefers a good moist but not water-logged soil; grows very well in heavy clay soils
Range:  Western parts of Canada and the United States
