The Theory and Art of Magic program is an ongoing, award-winning academic symposium that is dedicated to the magical arts.

Since 1999, magicians, scholars, and devoted patrons from all over the country have been gathering at Muhlenberg College to study magic as a human experience and as a performing art, and to experience performances by the world’s great masters of magic.

Past magicians-in-residence have included such stars as David Blaine, Eugene Burger, René Lavand, Max Maven, Jeff McBride, Juan Tamariz, and Teller.

We are delighted to announce the schedule for the 2008-2009 Theory and Art of Magic program:

1.  Lawrence Hass, The Transformations Workshop:  Performing Magic Rather than Tricks, December 5-7, 2008.

2.  The Second Theory and Art of Magic Conference on Performing Magic, March 19-21, 2009.

Featuring Keynote Presentations and full-evening performances by Eugene Burger, Robert Giobbi, Max Howard, and filmmaker Michael Caplan.  Extra events for magicians with the Keynote presenters will be held on March 18 and March 22.

CALL FOR PAPERS:  Proposals are welcome from magicians and scholars on any topic relating to magic performance, magic theory, and/or magic history.  Each presentation will be 30-40 minutes in length.  To submit a proposal for possible presentation at the conference, please send a 200-word description of your topic to the Conference Director, Dr. Lawrence Hass, at:  lhass@muhlenberg.edu.  All proposals are due to Dr. Hass by November 1, 2008.

Detailed information about these events and how to purchase tickets will soon be available at this website.
