Dr. Donald Shive has served as research advisor to 75 students
over the last 25 years. His students frequently present at Intercollegiate
Student Chemists meetings and publish student results in the Microchemical
Journal. Recent research has involved (1) electrochemical detection
of compounds separated by TLC; (2) a kinetic analysis for determining ALT
in micro samples of blood so that our blood supply could be screened for
hepatitis prior to collecting blood from donors; and (3) coupled chemilumenescent
analyses of biological active analyses. This year he is working with his
students to trap fullerenes in micellular cavities so that aqueous chemistry
of the fullerenes can be studied.
Courses Taught by Dr. Shive:
CHM 103/104: General Chemistry I and II
CHM 381: Special Topics: Electrochemistry
CHM 382: Special Topics: Mass Spectrometry
