Muhlenberg's new program in Film Studies builds on the expertise faculty have developed teaching film courses in various departments for many years. In particular, the department of media & communication has a long offered a variety of courses in film theory and production.
Dr. Lora Taub-Pervizpour's documentary research class challenges students to examine the moral and ethical tensions documentarians confront as they represent the lives of others. In creating their own documentary films, students engage in a reflexive process that reveals as much about the documentarians as those documented. The project can be difficult, but extraordinarily revealing. Each semester a different theme is explored. In Fall 2005, students' documentary work focused on "identity" in connection with the Center for Ethics program, "The Politics and Ethics of Identity".
