Over
the years, Russian Club trips have attracted many students and faculty by
providing a first-hand experience of Russian culture. They have served as
opportunities for Russian Studies enthusiasts to extend their education
outside the classroom setting, and have, at the same time, provided a glimpse
of a different culture for the curious among us. This year's trip to Red
Giselle adhered to the same principles of providing both entertainment and
education, and as usual, appealed to our sense of aesthetics. The ballet,
a tribute to Olga Spessivtseva, was performed by the Eifman Ballet of St.
Petersburg, a company that has been said to have revolutionized classical
dance in Russia by taking the art of ballet to its highest level of expressiveness.
The Russian Club was very excited about this trip not
only because of the quality of the event but because of its location as
well- New York City. Lincoln City Center is located in the heart of Manhattan
and has in its proximity the fabulous Russian Café Uncle Vanya, where
the trip participants enjoyed dinner in a traditional, Russian, relaxing
atmosphere.
After dinner, those who wished were able to pay tribute
to the victims of September 11th at the new light memorial.
