The major in music develops basic musical skills expected of any serious
musician. It will prepare students for advanced work in performance,
composition, musicology, theory, music librarianship, church music,
arts administration, music sales and publishing, music therapy, college
and private teaching, and graduate study. The bachelor of arts with
a major in music may be sufficient for initial positions in some of
these areas. The music major may be effectively combined with other
majors, minors, or special combinations of courses, such as language,
business, theatre, and communications, to enhance the opportunities
for specific employment or graduate programs. For students wishing to
prepare for teaching music in the public schools, a cooperative program
leading to certification is available through Moravian College.
