Jeremy Slavin
Lecturer in Music (Voice)
BIOGRAPHY
A member of the Muhlenberg College staff since 1972, Jeremy Slavin studied at the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University with Robert Long and Frederick Shauwecker , and continued in Tito Capabianco' s Opera Studies at Philadelphia Musical Academy, studying with Richard Torigi. He has also studied with Wayne Conner. Prior to coming to Muhlenberg, he was on the music faculty of the Philadelphia Bible College His professional vocal debut was with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and his operatic debut was with Chicago Opera Theater. He has been in the Apprentice Program of the Santa Fe Opera, and was on the staff of Inspiration Point Artist Colony in Eureka Springs, Arkansas for seven summers. For the last twenty summers Mr. Slavin has served as Musical Director of the Muhlenberg Summer Theater.
Mr. Slavin has performed over 40 operatic and oratorio roles, including Gounod's Faust, Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata, Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly.and Bach's St. Matthew Passion, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, Haydn' s Creation, Mendelssohn's Elijah. On the lighter side, he has sung the tenor lead in four Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas.(Pirates of Penzance, Mikado, HMS Pinafore, Rudddigore).
For fifteen years, Mr. Slavin traveled to schools in the tri-state area, introducing opera with Young Audiences, Inc. Currently he is tenor soloist at St. Thomas Church, Whitemarsh, PA
VOICE LESSONS
Currently there are 120 students enrolled in private voice study at Muhlenberg with one of ten teachers on our staff. Each student receives 13 lessons during the semester.
MUHLENBERG COLLEGE CHOIR
Eighty Five members meets Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30-6:00PM. Fall semester includes one secular program and the annual Candlelight Carol Service in December. Spring semester includes one program, usually of Sacred Choral Music. Membership is by audition.
Recent highlights have been performances of Haydn's Harmoniemesse with the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra, and a recording of Christmas Favorites.

MUHLENBERG CHAMBER SINGERS
This select group of 24 is taken by audition, from the members of the Muhlenberg College Choir. It explores advanced Choral Repertoire. It meets Monday and Wednesday 4:30-6:00.

MUHLENBERG OPERA GROUP
This group meets in the Spring semester, and usually performs a group of selected scenes at the end of the semester. In the Spring of 2000 they joined forces with the Muhlenberg Theater Department for a full scale production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. Membership requires permission of Vocal Instructor.
