LEHIGH VALLEY HOSPITAL
Lehigh Valley Hospital offers a Research/Scholar program. Research scholars gain educational experience within their departments under the supervision of a mentor. You must have completed at least one year of college to apply.

LEHIGH VALLEY HOSPITAL - LIFE REVIEW PROGRAM
This internship is collaborate with Lehigh Valley Division of Geriatrics, Phoebe Nursing Home and Muhlenberg College. Five students each semester are trained to visit with the elderly residents and conduct a Life Review. Students will also develop communication and listening skills and gain an understanding of complications of caring for the elderly within our societies' current health system.
Students will be required to visit the Nursing Home patients twice weekly and reminisce and provide companionship with them. This internship earns a .5 unit of credit.

ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL
PRE-MED OBSERVER PROGRAM
The Pre-Med Observer Program is designed to give exemplary students an opportunity to preview medicine
for approximately twelve weeks through observations with residents, medical students, and staff physicians.
Areas covered included Podiatry, Family Health Clinic, OB/GYN and Emergency Departments. Students are
requested to visit twelve different diagnostic treatment and support areas to understand the roll they play
in the patient's care. Educational conference and administrative interviews are also encouraged. It is
hoped this broad exposure will give you a realistic view of the profession.
The Program will consist of four rotations which include the following:
- 12 hrs. over 3 weeks Shadowing in the Family Practice Dept.
- 12 hrs. over 3 weeks Shadowing in the OB/GYN Dept.
- 12 hrs. over 3 weeks Shadowing in the Podiatry Dept.
- 12 hrs. over 3 weeks Shadowing in the ER
- Attending education conferences
- Participating in early morning rounds or on-call night work
You will observe a minimum of 60 hours and will be awarded .5 unit of credit for this internship. This will
be graded P/F. Applicants must be of junior status with a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for this
program.

ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT SHADOW PROGRAM
In order to participate in this program, students must be able to set aside at least two mornings,
7:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. The program is designed to give you an opportunity to observe the
Physician Assistant in the physician's office, surgery, the clinic, and obstetrical areas prior to making
a commitment to the profession. You are also encouraged to visit a number of diagnostic and
treatment areas to understand the role the P.A. plays in the patient's care.
Applicants must be at least of sophomore status with a 3.0 GPA to be considered. You will receive 1 unit of credit for this internship.

ST. LUKE’S HOSPITAL
DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH
St. Luke’s Hospital, Department of Community Health, offers three different types of internships.
- Students who are HIV/STD trained are offered to apply for an internship
- Students interested in other areas of public health with a pre-med and/or pre-dental focus.
- Students who are interested in developing new programs, including obesity prevention, chronic disease prevention, heart disease, cancer, diabetes.
An orientation must be attended prior to the start of the internship. The orientation is offered on a Monday morning and can be done at the end of the prior semester. A schedule of internship hours will be implemented for the semester. This internship can be for either .5 unit of credit (5/6 hours a week) or 1 unit of credit (9-12 hours a week).
