An audition/interview is not required for admission to study in the department. Students do have the option to audition in support of their application if desired. An audition/interview is required for applicants who wish to be considered for talent-based scholarship awards.

Students with strong skills are encouraged to audition/interview with the department. Prospective students are also encouraged to combine the audition/interview with a campus visit and the opportunity to observe or take classes in the department. Students who live more than 200 miles from Allentown may submit a videotape audition, have a telephone interview or submit a portfolio by mail.

Strong dancers are encouraged to audition during one of our three scheduled audition days.  Students take a ballet and a modern class and then present a short solo in their strongest dance form.  In addition to the audition, students and their family have the opportunity to tour the campus and the theatre and dance facilities, have lunch with our current students, participate in two information sessions with admissions and dance faculty, and see a theatre or dance performance. 

The audition dates for students applying to enter Muhlenberg College in the fall of 2010 are November 14, February 13,and February 27. Students applying early decision should audition in October or November. Click here to register online now.

Additional audition details:  The ballet class is not en pointe, the solo can be in any dance style and does not need to be self-choreographed.   Music for your solo can be on ipod, CD, or cassette.  The solo should be 1 to 2 minutes in length and it is fine to stop dancing before the music stops.   Standard dance attire should be worn for class and solo.

A letter about your dance ability will be included in your admission file and a talent scholarship may be awarded.
