THE PAUL C. EMPIE THEATRE

Muhlenberg College boasts multiple performance venues fully equipped with state-of-the-art stage lighting and sound systems. Each venue encourages and supports the widest possible range of creative solutions for performance and design. From the intimate and flexible studio blackbox to the traditional proscenium of the elegant Dorothy Hess Baker Theatre, to the open ground plan of the Paul C. Empie Theatre, the possibilities are limitless.

The Paul C. Empie Theatre is a magnificent flexible space with excellent acoustics, a large orchestra pit and sophisticated computerized lighting system. The audience seating is

Oklahoma stageThe Empie Theatre is the principal theatre space in the Baker Center for the Arts. Major productions and concerts of the Muhlenberg Dance Association, Muhlenberg Theatre Association, and Muhlenberg Music Department as well as the Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre are housed here.
The Empie Theatre has 392 seats and an open ground plan that allows for productions seating from 50 to 700 spectators.

Empie Theatre - DanceA featured event each fall is the annual Master Choreographers Concert, showcasing the work of Muhlenberg faculty artists and nationally renowned guest artists performed by student dancers. The Empie Stage is also frequently home to the full-stage musical theatre work that is directed and choreographed by faculty and professional guest artists each season.

THE DOROTHY HESS BAKER THEATRE

The Dorothy Hess Baker Theatre is an elegant but intimate Broadway-style proscenium stage with 350 audience seats on two levels - the orchestra and the balcony. Fully equipped with state-of-the-art stage sound and lighting systems, orchestra pit and fly system for productions of the Muhlenberg Theatre Association, the Muhlenberg Dance Association, and the Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre as well as special presenting programs and concerts.

THEATRE STUDIO & DANCE STUDIO THEATRE

The Studio Theatre and Dance Studio Theatre.These facilities have been professionally designed for the College's dance and theatre programs and are utilized for instruction, rehearsals, and public performances. The intimate studio theatres seat 50 - 100 people for performances and provide flexible, innovative, creative choices for performers, directors and designers in approaching their work.

Well-equipped scene and costume shops, rehearsal and dressing rooms, and music rehearsal rooms in these facilities support the professional level of production work that is a trademark of Muhlenberg College. For more information, explore:

CLASSROOMS AND PRODUCTION FACILITIES

Students majoring in theatre and dance take classes in classrooms across the campus, with primary performance classes offered in The Trexler Pavilion for Theatre & Dance. In addition, the Brown Dance Studio (Brown Hall), the Tap Dance Studio (Baker Center for the Arts), and the Pilates Center (Life Sports Center) are major resources for class, ensemble and individual study in the program.
