CAMPUS STUDIO FACILITIES

The Studio TheatreThe Dance Studio TheatreDance & Theatre Studio Classrooms

The Trexler Pavilion for Theatre & Dance serves the more than 300 theatre, dance, and music students on the Muhlenberg campus who perform, design, direct, and produce work for the stage as part of their liberal arts education. The addition of multiple styles of performance spaces contributes to the quality of their experiences as artists and the diversity of skills they can develop during their years at Muhlenberg College. The facility also includes a classroom dance studio, expanded scene and costume shops, and a full stage-sized rehearsal hall.

THE STUDIO THEATRE

The Studio Theatre, a 50-square foot performance space, encourages creative approaches and flexible staging for classic and innovative productions of the Muhlenberg Theatre Association's mainstage season. Also supports the informal Black Box Series of student-directed and experimental works, original plays, and innovative dance-theatre productions. The studio is designed with a flexible system of seating risers to accomodate 100 people. Audience seating is by general admission in the Studio Theatre, and the diverse, dynamic performances of both the mainstage season and the MTA Black Box series are frequently sold/reserved in advance.

Trojan WomenThe Studio Theatre provides open, flexible space for artists to explore the physical relationship of the stage with its audiences. Faculty and student directors and designers are eager to embrace the open-ended possibilities as they approach each project, and audiences are rewarded with an intimate, accessible performance unlike any proscenium experience. Recent studio productions have included Trojan Women, Howard Barker's The Possilbilities and Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

Dissolving Moments: Dance Emerge 2008
The Dance Studio Theatre
houses public performances of faculty, guest artist, and student dance concerts as well as dance masterclasses and community workshops by faculty and artists in residence. An academic classroom for the extensive schedule of study in all styles of dance, the Dance Studio Theatre has a professionally installed dance floor, theatrical lighting and sound system, mirrors and bars that can be draped for performances, and a riser system to accommodate an audience of 80 people at each performance.

Every spring, the Dance Program presents "Dance Emerge" - an exceptional studio concert featuring advanced student choreographers. Executed with vitality and vision, these dance presentations are the product of a semester long  collaboration to develop new works in an intimate setting. This enriching and energetic concert ranges from raw and robust to sophisticated and delicate, each dance the unique vision of the choreographer. The experience of dance in the studio setting connects audiences to the dance and to the dancers in exciting ways.

STUDIO CLASSROOMS

DANCE & THEATRE STUDIOS: The Studio Theatre and Dance Studio Theatre also serve as studio performance classrooms. In addition, the Trexler Pavilion for Theatre & Dance and the Baker Center for the Arts also include multiple professionally designed studios that are used for academic classes and project rehearsals rather than for public performances. These include the Rehearsal Hall, the Dance Studio Classroom and the Tap Dance Studio. There is also a Pilates Studio and the Brown Dance Studio located across campus. Click for details.
