Ririe-WoodburyDedicated to contemporary, multi-media dance by creating and performing original and innovative works of the highest quality, RWNDT tours around the world to great acclaim. Ririe-Woodbury Dance and Associate Director Charlotte Boye-Christensen are the Baker Artists in Residence for Spring 2007. Charlotte will conduct a five-day intensive in modern dance technique in early January and set a new work on Muhlenberg dancers to be performed in the February 8-10 Master Choreographers Concert on the Muhlenberg College Campus. Ririe-Woodbury Dance will perform in concert in the Empie Theatre on February 16th at 8 p.m. for one performance only.

Based in Salt Lake City, Ririe-Woodbury is known worldwide for creating and performing the highest quality contemporary, multi-media dance. The company has performed in nearly every state and throughout Europe and Asia. It was one of just five dance companies invited to perform at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival in 2004.

Ririe-Woodbury’s ground-breaking repertory includes original works choreographed by its founders, Shirley Ririe and Joan Woodbury, as well by Charlotte Boye-Christensen, associate artistic director. Additionally, the company commissions new works from aspiring choreographers and seasoned professionals. The Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance recently selected Ririe-Woodbury as the dance company to house the works of modern dance innovator Alwin Nikolais. Ririe-Woodbury’s performances of works by Nikolais have received five-star reviews in the New York Times and the LA Times.

Founded in 1964, Ririe-Woodbury is dedicated to promoting the understanding of and appreciation for the art of dance in the belief that dance is for everybody. In 1983, it became the first U.S. modern dance company to perform in both the former Yugoslavia and in Canton, China.
From 1987-1992 company’s tours included Europe, American Samoa, and the former Soviet Union. Just before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Ririe-Woodbury performed in East Germany and was the first modern dance company to perform in Karl-Marx Stadt (now Chemnitz) in the former Soviet Union and in East Berlin in 15 years. The company returned to Chemnitz in 1991. In 1993, Ririe-Woodbury performed for 70,000 Bosnian war refugees in Slovenia. They were invited back for a two week tour in 1996.

Charlotte Boye-ChristensenCharlotte Boye-Christensen, a native of Denmark, received her formal training at London Contemporary Dance School and at the Laban Centre in London and completed her M.F.A. at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. After working internationally as a freelance choreographer, teacher and dancer for the more than a decade, she was invited to become Associate Artistic Director of the acclaimed dance company founded by Shirley Ririe and Joan Woodbury, who have stayed true to their professional mission to commission dances by the most exceptional choreographers and to tour regionally, nationally and internationally. Christensen has been commissioned to create new works for The Milwaukee Ballet, Singapore Dance Theatre, The Arts Fissions Dance Company, Ballet de Camaguey in Cuba, New Danish Dance Theatre, Tisch School of the Arts' Second Avenue Dance Company, Verb Ballets, and most recently, The New Opera House in Copenhagen.
