H1N1 Influenza Information & Prevention
On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization signaled that a pandemic of H1N1 (swine flu) was underway.  Preliminary epidemiologic data on H1N1 flu suggests significant risk of H1N1 infection among those in the college setting.  Therefore, it has not been surprising that there has been an increased number of flu-like-illnesses on college campuses this fall.  Fortunately, this flu-like-illness has been causing relatively mild disease. Specifically at Muhlenberg College, there has been some recent minimal sporadic flu-like activity causing mild symptoms within our community.

The Pandemic Influenza Response Team at Muhlenberg College has been closely monitoring the novel H1N1 virus activity.  In addition, we have been working with our local health department and have been tracking information provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)

Muhlenberg College is following the “CDC Guidance for Responses to Influenza for Institutions of Higher Education during the 2009-2010 Academic Year” which was recently released.
