BOOKS

Search the Trexler Library Catalog (http://library.muhlenberg.edu) to find books the library owns. 

A keyword search produces a broad list of results.  Use with Boolean Operators.
Use OR between like concepts or synonyms.  Use AND between different concepts.
		Example:  amphibian* and (skin or epiderm*)

	
A subject heading search produces a small, exact list of results.
	Library of Congress Subject Headings specifically for TLC
		Example:  Lizards - Anatomy
	Medical Subject Headings (Mesh), specifically for MEDLINE

    As a Muhlenberg student, you have access and borrowing privileges to a number of college libraries in the Lehigh Valley. The Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges includes Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, and Moravian College. There are also many Research Libraries whose catalogs you may want to explore as well.

    To expand your book search considerably, try WorldCat. It is listed under Find - Books, Videos, Music. WorldCat is a unified catalog of many libraries in the U.S. and other parts of the world. This is a powerful search tool for books, web resources, and other materials on any subject.

    Remember, start early to allow enough time to receive them.

Tip: Use Magazines for Libraries (kept at the Ref. desk) or UlrichsWeb (located under Find - Online Reference Shelf), to help you evaluate the journals you locate in these databases. Key concepts include refereed or peer reviewed, scholarly vs. popular.

    Academic Search Premier contains full text for more than 4,500 scholarly publications covering academic areas like medical sciences, ethnic studies, education, humanities, etc.

    General Science and Biological & Agricultural Index (Wilson) both index scholarly and popular periodicals which have information on biology and agriculture plus many more scientific topics. Full text of some journals available.

    JSTOR is a full text archival database of important scholarly journals. It is not a current issues databases. Typically there is a gap of 1-5 years between the most recent issue and the back issues available through JSTOR.

    PubMed searches Medline which is an index of medical journals sponsored by the National Library of Medicine dating back to 1966.

    IngentaConnect is a table of contents service for over 31,360 publications since 1988. It contains over 24,000,000 citations to articles with this number increasing weekly.

    BIOSIS: Biological Abstracts provides comprehensive coverage of worldwide research in the biological and biomedical sciences. This database corresponds to the print Biological Abstracts.
    You must make an appointment with a reference librarian to use this database.
