Planning

Collect all materials

  • Books, notes, handouts, study guides, syllabi, old tests

Be selective

  • Concentrate on topics emphasized in class
  • Know what type of exam you will have and prepare accordingly
  • Meet with your instructor if necessary

Prioritize

  • Prepare (and follow) an exam study schedule
  • Know when and where you will study
  • Don’t cram – begin at least 5 days in advance

Use an appropriate study strategy

Pace yourself

  • Don’t try to absorb too much information at one time
  • Break tasks down into small, manageable “chunks”
  • Three 1-hour sessions are more effective than one 3-hour session
  • Know when to take a break
  • Remember to eat and sleep
  • Avoid becoming distracted
  • Conduct a final review the night before the exam
