Construction at 'Berg
"The Village" Replacement Housing
DESCRIPTION:
Five new buildings, housing a total of 145 students,
will replace seven single floor housing units built in
1981 to house 56 students. The new modular units,
currently under construction, are being manufactured by
Kullman Buildings Corp. Kullman recently erected a new
student residence building at Yale University. The new
units, collectively known as "The Village", will be
erected on the MacGregor site during the summer of 2007.
Each building will consist of two suites on each of
three floors. Entry will be at the mid-floor level. The
configuration of most suites will consist of three
single rooms and one double room, a full kitchen, a
living room, and toilet/bath facilities. One suite in
each building will consist of 4 singles in addition to
full kitchen, living room, and toilet/bath facilities.
The units will be air-conditioned and will be accessible
to physically-challenged students.
The brick masonry structures will overlook neighboring Cedar Beach Park and will feature outdoor patio areas and new landscaping. Additional parking for students will be provided along with a near-by laundry building that will also provide a combined meeting room/ recreational space.
CONSTRUCTION AND OCCUPANCY
DATES:
Razing of the current MacGregor units will occur at the
close of the spring semester. Site work will occur
during the period May 15 – June 15. Erecting of the new
structures will occur June 15 through September. It is
anticipated that three buildings will be complete for
the start of the fall 2007 semester. The remaining two
buildings will be completed during September.
