A two-year full scholarship at St. John's College in the University of Cambridge, England, is offered to seniors in select institutions. The Davies-Jackson Scholarship is offered to students who are among the first in their families to graduate college and pursue a rigorous course of study in the liberal arts.
The Davies-Jackson Scholarship will cover all fees, room, and board during term time for two academic years (beginning September following graduation) and maintenance expenses during the summer vacation of the following year. Travel to and from England will also be covered. The total value of the award is approximately $50,000.
Coursework at Cambridge offers students the opportunity to study a subject matter in great depth. A "Tutorial" system forms the basis of teaching, with supervisions conducted in small groups and/or on a one-to-one basis.
The course of study a Cambridge B.A., comparable to an M.A. in the U. S. Candidates who wish to read one of the following subjects are invited to apply: Archaeology and Anthropology, Classics, Economics, English, Geography, History, History of Art, Modern and Medieval Languages, Music, Philosophy, or Social and Political Sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to show a top-grade academic record, demonstrate an inquiring and disciplined mind, have a clear, literate writing style, and be committed to meeting the rigorous standards which study at St. John's College demands.
