Mr. Joseph Brown teaches Spanish courses at Muhlenberg College. He is a native of Mexico and enjoys sharing his bicultural background with his students and faculty. Mr. Brown has been a recipient of several academic scholarship awards. He received the King Juan Carlos Award to Spain in 1991, the National Resource Center for Foreign Languages Award to Iowa State University in 1996, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Award to Puerto Rico in 2000. Mr. Brown taught Spanish to US students in Costa Rica in 1992 at the Universidad de Heredia, and in Spain in 1993 at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He also taught English as a Second Language to Spanish-speaking students in Cuzco, Peru, at the Universidad de San Antonio Abad as a recipient of the Rotary International University Teacher Grant in 1998.

The graduate work of Mr. Brown includes the study of Peninsular Literature and Latin American Literature. He is also an active member of the Pennsylvania Modern Language Association, especially as a teacher and advocate of foreign language acquisition and connections between K-16 education.
