Notes From the Directors

Dear Friends,

As most of you have guessed by now, MCDC will be performing Where the Wild Things Are for our Spring Performance in early May! This story-based theme will allow all students to dance numerous times within the production and perform with other classes throughout the performance. We are also excited that our student teachers will be choreographing, assisting, and participating in the performance with our MCDC students.

ALL MCDC dancers are encouraged to participate in this show! There will be two performances, May 11 and 12, in Muhlenberg’s Baker Theatre. There are two dress rehearsals leading up to the performances, on May 9 and 10 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. All dancers have been asked to inform their teachers upon returning from Spring Break whether they will or will not be participating in the production so we can plan accordingly.

PARENTS & FRIENDS: We need your help! We are in need of some helping hands to make this production come to life. We need help with sewing costumes, building pieces for the set, creating/crafting costume design elements (e.g., head pieces, tree branches, leaves, vines, and so on). If you are willing and able, PLEASE SIGN UP and we will get in touch with you.

Also, please help spread the word! Please download this 8.5x11 flier, and print out as many as you would like. You can hand them out to friends and relatives, or hang them up in schools and businesses you frequent.

We're excited about this project, and we hope that you are too! Thank you in advance for all your help!

Sincerely,
Lisa Bottitta-Busfield
MCDC Educational Director

Be on time for class!

Just a friendly reminder, we need ALL students to be on time and ready to dance at the start of their class. This is for the safety of your child! If the dancer is not on time for class, they are not getting a proper warmup and are more susceptible to injury. Also, if you child will be missing a class, please let the teacher know ahead of time if possible.

MCDC Dancers Class in NYC

On Feb. 19, the Performance Company and advanced dancers took part in a Bob Fosse-themed class at Broadway Dance Center. Eighteen dancers enjoyed a 90-minute class in musical theatre with professional dancer J. Ryan Carroll. The dancers were taught a routine to "Bye Bye Blackbird" from the award-winning concert film Liza with a Z, featuring Liza Minnelli. MCDC Youth Program and Performance Company Director Tara Repsher coordinated the trip. We enjoyed not only the class but also a day in the city, and we can't wait to return next year!

For information about joining the MCDC Performance Company, please see the MCDC website, or contact Tara Repsher.
