freshman reaches final at ITA

Freshman Emily Szulman advanced to the final of the Blue 4 singles draw at the ITA Southeast Regional, hosted by Mary Washington.

The Mules sent eight players to the tournament, which featured schools from all over the region competing in 11 different brackets. Sunday's consolation rounds were canceled due to rain.

Szulman defeated opponents from Meredith, Christopher Newport and Bridgewater before dropping the championship match to a player from Grove City.

Szulman also teamed with another freshman, Nina Sanders, for a win in the first round of the Blue 1 doubles draw.

Senior Sara Sutker (right) won her first-round match in the championship singles draw before losing a close 6-4, 7-5 decision to a Johns Hopkins player who went on to reach the quarterfinals.
