Squire Named Player of the Week; Mules Ranked 17th
Tuesday, September 6, 2011|
Squire helped the Mules to a 2-0 start to the 2011 season, contributing to three of five goals in wins against Cortland State (3-2) and DeSales (2-0).
The midfielder assisted on the first goal of the Cortland State game and later broke a 1-1 tie by scoring off a direct kick. Squire put in another
direct kick late in the DeSales game to give Muhlenberg some breathing room.
The five points in two games were two fewer than Squire had in 28 career games entering the season.
In the first National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll of the regular season, the Mules are ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 17th
in Division III. This is the sixth year out of the last nine that Muhlenberg has earned a national ranking. Last year, the Mules climbed as high as
No. 17 during the regular season and were ranked No. 12 in the final poll.
As usual, the Centennial Conference is well represented in the rankings. Four of the top six teams in the regional poll are from the CC, and three of
them are in the top 25.
