Scotty Wood Tournament preview

Kenneth Cobb Senior defensive end Kenneth Cobb of the Muhlenberg football team was named defensive player of the week by the Centennial Conference for the second time in his career.

Cobb was one of the leaders of a stingy defensive effort in yesterday’s season-ending 28-0 win against Moravian. He recorded six tackles, including 1½ sacks, and forced two fumbles, both of which were recovered by the Mules. Two of his tackles came at the line of scrimmage on back-to-back third-and-1 and fourth-and-1 plays from the Muhlenberg 31-yard line in the second quarter, denying the Greyhounds on one of their few good scoring opportunities.

Muhlenberg allowed only 139 total yards and eight first downs in the game. Moravian gained just 56 yards and took only three snaps in Muhlenberg territory in the second half.

The shutout was the second straight at home for the Mules, and their second straight against Moravian at home. The Greyhounds have not scored a point at Scotty Wood Stadium in almost 142 minutes, since the third quarter of the 2007 game.

Muhlenberg ended the year allowing 298.5 yards and 12.8 points per game – its 11th straight year under 300 and 20 in those two categories.

The sacks gave Cobb 6½ for the season, good for seventh in the CC. He moved into fourth place on the program’s all-time list with 17½ career sacks. Cobb also is tied for second in the CC with three forced fumbles on the season.
