Men's Soccer Ranked; Antonini Honored
Tuesday, September 4, 2012|
The Mules opened their season with wins against Elizabethtown (3-2) and Cortland State (2-0). Senior Cody Antonini (right) scored three of the team’s
five goals and was named offensive player of the week by the Centennial Conference.
Muhlenberg is no stranger to rankings. The Mules have been regionally and/or nationally ranked every year since 1987. Last year, they were rated as high
as No. 9 by D3soccer.com, but this is their highest ranking in the NSCAA poll since 1997. Muhlenberg is ranked No. 2 in the Mid-Atlantic Region behind
CC rival Franklin & Marshall.
As usual, the CC figures prominently in the rankings. Besides F&M (No. 8 nationally) and Muhlenberg, Dickinson (No. 4), Swarthmore (No. 7) and Haverford (No. 10) are also ranked in the region.
Antonini earned the CC honor for the fourth time in his career, making quite the splash in his return after taking a year off. He scored just 65 seconds
into the season opener against Elizabethtown and needed just 12 seconds to find the back of the net vs. Cortland State.
The three goals gave Antonini 36 for his
career, good for seventh place on the all-time Muhlenberg chart.
