Holly Hynson, Laurainne Ojo-Ohikuare, Chelsea Kaser The Muhlenberg volleyball team will have three captains – Holly Hynson, Laurainne Ojo-Ohikuare and Chelsea Kaser – for the 2013 season.

Hynson (above left), a junior outside hitter, finished 15th in the Centennial Conference with 2.29 kills per set a year ago. The school’s active leader in career kills, Hynson was second on the team in that category with 213 last season, also contributing 188 digs (second on team) and 19 aces.

Ojo-Ohikuare (middle), the Mules’ lone senior, is entering her second season as team captain. The veteran outside hitter turned in 75 kills - including a career-best 1.56 kills per set - a year ago to go along with 25 digs and 14 blocks.

Coming off a standout freshman season that saw her earn All-CC second team honors, Kaser (right) was rewarded with captaincy entering just her second year. Kaser is the first sophomore to be named captain since 2009. The libero topped the team with 343 digs, and was well on her way to breaking the school record in that category before suffering an injury and missing the final four matches of the season. Kaser still led the conference with 4.68 digs per set in league matches, and also paced the Mules with 37 aces.

All three athletes played crucial roles in helping an inexperienced Mules team finish 17-11 despite having no seniors and just three juniors. The Mules wound up with the program’s highest win total since 2008.

Muhlenberg begins practice on Saturday before kicking off the new season with the DeSales Invitational on Friday, August 30. The Mules will take on Cabrini and DeSales before matching up with Albright and Ithaca the next day. The Mules then host the Buttermaker Tournament on Friday, September 6, and Saturday, September 7.
