Athletics: Men's Basketball
Muhlenberg College has a highly successful and respected men’s basketball program. Twenty-one consecutive seasons with 10 or more wins and 10 straight years of qualifying for postseason play are the achievements of a program that stresses sportsmanship, unity and passion for the game. The belief that a strong defense is the cornerstone of a successful team has resulted in the Mules being nationally ranked in scoring defense and field-goal percentage defense.
Muhlenberg typically carries a squad of about 15 players and opens every season by hosting the Scotty Wood Tournament the weekend before Thanksgiving. The Mules play 18 Centennial Conference games and fill out their schedule with strong regional opponents and a tournament. The past two seasons have featured in-season trips to Washington, D.C., complete with a guided tour of the Capitol building, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Every three years, the team flies to Europe for a trip that combines basketball with sightseeing and cultural exchange. Destinations have included Ireland in 2009, Italy in 2006, Ireland in 2003, Spain in 2000, Germany and Austria in 1997 and the British Isles in 1994.
