Rice qualifies for NCAA meet

After making his case for fastest man in the Centennial Conference, Muhlenberg sprinter Peter Rice will have the opportunity to compete against some of the quickest athletes in all of Division III.

"Sweet 16" matchup set The Muhlenberg women's basketball team will play host Amherst at 7 p.m. Friday in the NCAA "Sweet 16". The winner of that game will face the winner of Friday's first game between Bowdoin and Babson at 6 p.m. Saturday for a chance to go to the Division III "Final Four" in Bloomington, Ill. The junior earned a spot in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Championships, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

Rice, the CC record holder in the event, is the first Mule sprinter to qualify for the indoor championships.

His qualifying time of 48.67, which becomes 49.17 after applying the conversion for a banked track, is the ninth-fastest time in Division III this season.

The prelims for the 400 are scheduled for 6:55 Friday evening, with the finals set for 5:45 on Saturday.
