Lacrosse, tennis fall at Washington
Trailing by three at the break, the Muhlenberg women’s lacrosse team scored three of the first four goals of the second half to pull to within one of Washington.
But the Shorewomen (8-2, 2-2) responded with four in a row, and six of the next seven, to pull away and hold off a late Mule charge for a 16-13 win in Chestertown.
Senior Danielle Rosen scored five goals and added three assists to give her 185 points in her career, good for fourth in Muhlenberg history.
Sophomore Alex Bellini (left) set new career highs with four goals and five points for the Mules (4-5, 0-4).
The Muhlenberg men’s lacrosse team jumped out a quick 3-0 lead less than three minutes into the game, but Washington (4-4, 2-2) outscored the Mules 6-0 over the next 44 minutes and went on to win, 9-6.
Sophomore Doug Rheiner led Muhlenberg (3-6, 1-3) with two goals, while senior Mike Horowitz made 15 saves. Junior Nick Rispoli combined with sophomore Ian Jones to win 13 of 18 faceoffs and collect 13 ground balls for the Mules.
The Muhlenberg women’s tennis team, ranked No. 15 in the most recent regional poll, fell to the No. 14 Shorewomen, 7-2.
Freshman Emily Szulman had a hand in both of the Mules' victories. She won at No. 6 singles and teamed with classmate Nina Sanders to win at No. 3 doubles.
The Muhlenberg men's tennis team also fell to regionally ranked Washington, 9-0.
