women’s lacrosse finishes up;
The Mules, who were eliminated from playoff contention when Dickinson beat Swarthmore on Wednesday night, played the game with two of their three leading scorers sidelined with injury. The playoff-bound Bears (8-8, 6-3) led only 3-2 with five minutes left in the first half but scored nine of the next 10 goals to open up a 12-3 spread midway through the second half.
Sophomore Alex Bellini scored two goals for Muhlenberg (7-8, 3-6). Freshman Kaitlyn McCaffrey caused three turnovers to set a school record with 37 for the season.
Five Mule seniors finished their careers. Senior Danielle Rosen recorded an assist to end with 212 points, good for second on the
Mules’ all-time list. Maggie Sullivan scored a goal, Christine Van Hise (right) added an assist, Allisyn Vachon made nine saves, and Lauren DeCarle had four ground balls and three draw controls.
For the last time in 2011, the Muhlenberg track and field teams boarded a bus and traveled to an away meet, the Widener Invitational. The Mules will host the Centennial Conference Championships next weekend.
Freshman Erin Saucier set an outdoor personal best by clearing 10-6 in the pole vault. She tied for third overall and tied for first among Division III competitors. Freshman Stephanie Carnevale finished second to a Division II athletes in 100-meter hurdles.
Junior Kimberlee Yalango and senior Hannah Mitchell placed 6-7 in a field of 58 in the 800 meters and also teamed up on the fourth-place 4x400 relay team.
Junior Peter Rice was first among collegiate runners (third overall) in the 400. Senior Bobby Torphy placed fourth overall, and first among Division III runners, in the 800.
