men's soccer captains Muhlenberg’s soccer teams will be captained by experienced senior players this fall.

First-team All-Centennial Conference selections Kyle Plifka, Nate Squire and Danny Way (left to right, top) serve as captains for the men’s team. Captaining the women are Alyssa Meola and Maggie Neary (left to right, bottom).

Plifka is in his second season as a captain. A three-year starter at center back, he is the anchor of a Mule defense that has allowed only 43 goals in 56 games during his career. Plifka has also contributed to the offense with 3 goals.

Squire tied for second on the team with 11 points from his center midfield spot last year. One of two players to start every game for Muhlenberg the last two years, he will enter his senior season with a career total of 18 points on 8 goals and 2 assists.

Way led the Mules in scoring with 15 points in 2011. He tied for the CC lead with 5 goals in league games and will enter his senior season with career totals of 22 goals (tied for 17th all-time) and 48 points.

women's soccer captains Meola scored a career-high 8 points as a junior and ranks second among active Muhlenberg players with 14 career points. She is a three-year starter in the midfield.

Neary has started all but two games at center back for the Mules the last three years. She was named to the All-CC team in both 2009 and 2010.

Both Muhlenberg teams are scheduled to open at home the weekend of August 31-September 1, with doubleheaders at 5 and 7 both nights. The men play the openers against Elizabethtown and Cortland State, and the women follow with games against Wilkes and Penn State Altoona, respectively.
