Gruver Named to Scholar-Athlete Team

John Gruver Senior John Gruver of the Muhlenberg football team recently was honored as a scholar-athlete by the Lehigh Valley chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

A double major in economics and finance, Gruver was a three-year letterwinner at wide receiver for the Mules. As a senior, he caught five passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. He also averaged 8.6 yards on 27 punt returns and 21.2 yards on 15 kickoff returns.

Gruver was named Centennial Conference special teams player of the week after accumulating 77 yards on four total returns in a 33-0 shutout of McDaniel.

Gruver was presented with the award at a banquet whose keynote speaker was Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien. He received the same honor from the NFF four years ago as a senior at Palisades High School.
