CC softball preview Track & field

They are in the middle of their lineups and the head of their classes.

Muhlenberg seniors Kelly Kline and Max Litvak were named named to the Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-District 4 softball and baseball teams, respectively, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Kelly Kline District 4 consists of all NCAA colleges and universities in Pennsylvania. To be nominated for the team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on his or her team.

Both players will now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration – after they try to help their teams win Centennial Conference championships this weekend.

A double major in business administration and accounting, Kline has been one of the most feared batters in the CC for the last three years. This season she is hitting .421 and leads the CC in home runs (8), walks (25), slugging percentage (.768) and on-base percentage (.553). The three-time CC player of the week also leads the Mules in runs scored (30) and RBI (31).

Kline, the 2012 CC player of the year and a two-time (likely to be three-time soon) all-region selection, holds a slew of school record, including home runs in career (29) and season (12), RBI in career (149) and season (51), extra-base hits in career (69) and season (26) and longest hitting streak (26 games). She has obliterated many of those marks, such as the previous records for home runs (13) and RBI (93).

Max Litvak Away from the field, Kline is a member of the co-ed campus fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. This past semester, she has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley, and she also has participated in College Connect as well as Jefferson Field Day.

A double major in accounting and finance, Litvak is the first Muhlenberg baseball player named to the Academic All-District team since 2009. The lefty-swinging designated hitter is third on the Mules in hitting with a .325 average and is tied for the team lead (and tied for sixth in the CC) with 12 doubles. He is second on the team in slugging percentage (.494) and RBI (23) and had one of the biggest hits of the season, a 10th-inning walkoff pinch-single to beat nationally ranked York (Pa.).

Litvak is a career .326 hitter with 26 extra-base hits (19 doubles and 7 triples) in only 230 at-bats for a slugging percentage of .470. He tied a school record for hits in a game by going 6-for-6 in a win against Keuka last year.

Off the field, Litvak is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and held the position of Secretary, Vice President and Treasurer for the Interfraternal Council last year. He also was Head Bond Investor for the Investment Society and is Muhlenberg’s ambassador for the Becker CPA program as well as the on-campus Deloitte ambassador.
