men’s basketball falls just short
The Muhlenberg
men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 67-66 loss at Ursinus when Evan Tozer's jumper from the corner with 1.3 seconds left was ruled a two-pointer.
The Mules (8-9, 4-5), who rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit behind the shooting of freshman Austin Curry, trailed 67-64 when they took possession after a pair of Bear free throws with 20.9 seconds left. A three-pointer from the wing missed, but the rebound got batted out to Tozer in the corner. With time running down, the senior leaned into his defender in an attempt to draw a foul as he heaved the ball toward the basket. The ball went in, but in moving forward Tozer stepped over the three-point line.
Ursinus (6-10, 3-6) inbounded the ball and ran out the clock.
The disappointing ending spoiled an inspired comeback effort by the Mules, who
The Muhlenberg wrestling team got wins from two upperweights in a 40-7 loss at King's. Senior Bill Sholly posted a 12-2 major decision
at 184, and junior Nick Pallotta won 6-0 at heavyweight.
The game was tied three more times, the last at 59 with 3:39 left. Ursinus scored the next four points on free throws and held on - "bear-ly" - for the win.
Four players accounted for all of the Mules' points. Curry scored 21 of his game-high 24 points in the second half. Junior Spencer Liddic and freshman Kevin Hargrove netted 15 points apiece, and Tozer added 12. Liddic added 9 rebounds and Hargrove blocked 3 shots.
