Athletics: Field Hockey
Field hockey is Muhlenberg's oldest and most successful women's varsity sport. Since 1959, Mule field hockey teams have compiled an outstanding record of 379-247-35 for a winning percentage of .600.
Along the way, Muhlenberg has recorded eight undefeated seasons and has been ranked in the national top 10 numerous times. Between 1980 and 1990, the Mules made five appearances in the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs, winning the championship in 1989 and receiving a bid to the NCAA Tournament that year. In 1993, the first season of the Centennial Conference, Muhlenberg finished in second place and won a Division II Tournament at East Stroudsburg.
Muhlenberg opened a new chapter in its history in 1998, when it started playing its home games on an on-campus AstroTurf field. The team proved to be worthy of its new home, earning a bid to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament. The 2000 team was ranked 12th in Division III early in the season, and in 2002 the Mules tied a school record with 14 wins. The 2003 squad won its first eight games and peaked at No. 7 in the national poll.
In 2006, Muhlenberg won a Centennial Conference playoff game for the first time.
