Athletics: Field Hockey
The Muhlenberg College field hockey program has enjoyed a run of success since an AstroTurf field was built on campus in the summer of 1998.
Muhlenberg has averaged nearly 10 wins over the past 16 seasons. The Mules went 12-7 and earned Centennial Conference playoff bids in 2006 and 2007, recording their first postseason win in 14 years in 2006.
The Mules won their first eight games and climbed as high as seventh in the national poll in 2003. They tied a school record with 14 wins in 2002. The 2000 squad achieved a national ranking early in the season and qualified for the Centennial Conference playoffs. In 1998, the Mules went 12-7 and hosted an ECAC Tournament game on their new field. The team reached double digits in wins again the following season, finishing at 10-7.
The squad, which consists of about 20 members, begins practice in late August and plays games through the first week of November.
Muhlenberg competes in the Centennial Conference, one of the top Division III field hockey leagues in the country. Since 1992, six of the 10 schools in the Conference have appeared in the NCAA Tournament, and Ursinus won the national championship in 2006. The Mules also play a strong non-conference slate that includes perennial top-10 Montclair State.
The team stays sharp in the offseason by competing in outdoor tournaments in the spring.
